The African Federation for Emergency Medicine, established in 2009, is committed to supporting universal access to high-quality emergency care across Africa. Our mission centres on strengthening emergency care systems continent-wide through collaborative leadership, advocacy, strategic partnerships, policy development, educational guidance, and research tailored to the African context.
AFEM is proud to co-host the 8th African Conference on Emergency Medicine – our flagship scientific conference and the largest emergency care conference in the African region – alongside the Emergency Medicine Association of Tanzania. Supporting this biennial gathering is SUPADEL, AFEM’s peer-to-peer sponsorship model to ensure broad delegate access and foster cross-border collaboration among emergency care professionals at all levels.

The Emergency Medicine Association of Tanzania (EMAT), was established in 2011, is dedicated to advancing and promoting quality emergency care in Tanzania. EMAT collaborates with local and international stakeholders to strengthen emergency care systems both nationally and across Africa.
The Association has played a key role in training healthcare providers through accredited emergency care courses, conferences, and zonal chapters. EMAT is a recognized training center for WHO, the American Heart Association (AHA), Primary Trauma Care (PTC), and other institutions. Today, EMAT supports over 105 Emergency Medicine Departments across the country, from primary health care to specialized centers
